What is 2-1-1 Reflection?
2-1-1 reflections are based on reflections from books, podcasts, quotes, poems, songs and life in general
2-1-1 reflections is coined from the number of insights, questions and calls to action from my reflections.
Expanding on 2-1-1 reflections
I enjoy reflecting and learning., though I don’t usually have a structure to my practice.
Over the past months, I have been using a reflective method similar to 2-1-1 to study scripture. This was introduced to me by one of my female pastor mentors. It has helped me gain deeper understanding of scripture. It also helps me recall the stories in the scripture long after I have read them.
Another example that caught my attention is a weekly newsletter by James Clear: 3-2-1 where he share 3 ideas from him, 2 quotes from other people and 1 question for the reader. These structure have deepened my reflections and I hope to share my adaptation in this newsletter.
The breakdown is: 2 Insights from me ; 1 Question for you & 1 Call to action for all of us.
Mirrors and Reflection
“Whatever may be their use in civilized societies, mirrors are essential to all violent and heroic action.” ― Virginia Woolf, “A Room of One’s Own”
Mirrors and women have been allies for centuries. When you look at a mirror, you see yourself as you truly are. Some people may be afraid of really looking at themselves, yet it is only when we are self aware that we can see out beauty and our faults, see the truth. With a hard and closer look, we can begin to accept ourselves. Self-reflection is a transformational tool for empowerment.
I invite you to use the reflections like we use our mirrors – not to focus on lies or negative images, but to reflect our greatness as individuals, discover our sense of self and hold the space for ourselves and others.
