Success Snip Series: #2 – When is it your morning?

Morning is not an A.M.

“Morning people are successful people”. I hear this all the time. Full disclosure, I am a morning person. And I’m here to get you to think differently about the morning. Morning is not necessarily what has an A.M at the end. Time is one concept that can mean different things to different people. We have a saying in the Igbo language which says: “Mgbe onye ji pụta ụla, bu ụtụtụ ya”. In English, this literally translates to: “whenever one wakes, that, is their morning.” This saying is deep like many other African proverbs and I love to say this to myself anytime someone accomplishes a task they initially resisted or thought there was no use in doing at that point.

Time as a network of events

In this blog, I continue with the success snip series which are snippets from quotes or insightful sayings that encourage and challenge our minds for success and growth. Have you ever regretted that you did not start some things in your life earlier? Or that you lost time because of certain life events? I know! I’ve had those sentiments too. I have wondered how my life may have turned out differently if I didn’t spend 10 years at home with my kids when they were babies, or try a new career path a few years ago. Who knows?!

The past is the past!

Guess what? Those times are past and there’s no knowing how things may have panned out for sure! One thing I strongly believe is that all things work together for my good! “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28 KJV. That’s why I can look back in time confidently and with no regrets – my outlook of time is as a network of events that project our past, present, and future.

Reality Check: start where you are now!

Here’s the harsh reality: you are here now! So what are you going to do about that? That’s why I love the saying about when the morning starts. If you agree with this saying, you can see that it’s okay to have just woken up. Now is your morning! Seize it and make the future great. There’s no joy in looking back with regret or wondering what could be different. Start where you are and make that difference from this day forward.

Joy comes in the morning! Be encouraged. (King David’s song at the dedication of the temple is titled Joy comes in the morning – Psalm 30 ESV)

Love the quote about your morning starting when you wake up – implies no judgment and new beginnings. Thanks for the inspiration today!

Another Igbo adage: UWA mgbede ka mma–
Evening is a timeline for serenity, and capping up the day’s events. It’s akin to the opening of another door as one closes.
Success, my dear can come at uwa mgbede. Ride on.
